Houston Astros….and Trade Rumors

Filed under: Baseball! — Jill @ 6:07 pm

I am actually relieved that there were no trades for the Astros. Definitely surprised, but relieved. I don’t want to lose any of the players that we have. There is so much talent there. Even as pissed as I am that Lidge is still in the closer role (see previous post), I don’t think we should trade him. It is not like he has actually lost his talent. It cannot disappear. But I do believe Garner should pull him as the closer for a bit and let him get his head straightened out. Either give him something else to do, or just let him sit his ass out. He does not really deserve to play. The more you put him in, and the more he fails, the worse it is going to be. Probably does not help his head to have heard those trade rumors. Especially the part about Drayton McLane supposedly “ordering” Purpura to trade Lidge. It will either destroy him or make him snap out of this crap he is going through. We shall see. Cause we all know there is no way in hell Garner will stop putting him in. Blah. Even though I did not want to lose any players, I did want to get Tejada. And yes, I know it would have been impossible to get Tejada and lose no one. I am fully aware of what “trade” means.

Astros’ Musings

Filed under: Baseball! — Jill @ 6:18 pm

I read an article about the game Lidge blew today that said there was no broken furniture or pissed off Astros in the dugout after this game. A game where Roger Clemens was absolutely brilliant, and once again the bullpen blew it. Lidge had to make one out. Just ONE out. Granted, Qualls had been the one to do the REAL damage, but at least it was still tied. Damn Lidge. Anyway. Back to the point. I think it sucks that there was NOT any broken furniture or pissed off Astros after that shit today. Broken furniture means that at least they are passionate about the fact that they sucked. Pissed that they lost. Upset about blowing yet another one. Disappointed in the fact that Clemens ERA was lowered to about 2.0, and they STILL blew a W for him. At this point their lack of passion and emotion shows that they are becoming used to losing. Used to being mediocre. And that is unacceptable. They have so much talent. And they SHOULD be pissed off. I am pretty supportive of players that are in slumps. Like Ausmus. He at least still contributes defensively. Makes up for his lack of offense at the moment. Slightly. What Lidge is going through has passed the point of “slump.” He is a closer. He is unable to close. Enough said. My ass would be fired if I messed up at my job as much as he messes up at his. If an employee is not able to bring their assignment to fruition, either give a new assignment, or find a new employee. Ridiculous. Man, I needed to vent. Have a good week. :-)

The Perfect Friday….

My best girls, Call of Duty, and beer. :) The guys eventually joined us. Even though they were sticking to coffee for a while. All in all, a pretty good Friday. Saturday was supposed to be a baseball day, but it freakin rained of course. We did find a pretty good field, but when Jay and I went over there the dirt was so slick I almost busted my ass twice. Just by walking around to test it out. We definitely would have had some people getting hurt!! Oh well! Try again next week, of course. I am still on a mission to find a good field….maybe one a little easier to get to that does not involve I-10. Hmm. Today was still a baseball day. Watching a few games. Astros actually managed to win. I practically got tears in my eyes when Lidge was brought in!! Oh well. He got the job done today…finally! Even had baseball food Saturday night. Hot dogs. YUM.
Oh yeah, random pictures are up from a random baseball day. Thanks to Elodie!!

Just cause I think it is funny…

Ode to Brandi…

Filed under: Home — Jill @ 1:46 pm

My friend Brandi…who was my roommate for two years in college, had her heart broken today. I just wanted to let her know how sorry I am that her life as she knows it is over…but Lance Bass of NSYNC is gay. :-)   If she still lived in Texas, I would help her through the grieving process. Unfortunately, she lives in Florida. And no, she did not move there to be closer to NSYNC’s home base. HAHA. So random. I have actually had two people email me to ask me if I have heard if Brandi is okay….which is even funnier than her texting me that her life is over!!..

Want to know why it is flooding today?

Filed under: Home — Jill @ 7:20 am

Because my freakin July Quarterly Meeting is today! About 375 people, including staff, are supposed to be at the Westin Oaks at 11:30 for a damn luncheon. What are the odds that half those people show up?? Damn Texas weather.

Comic Relief

Filed under: Home, My Day, Work, Baseball! — Jill @ 8:24 pm

That is definitely what I provide when we play baseball. And unfortunately, not by my quick and clever wit. I provide comic relief by bouncing along the ground when I fall down. And by being unable to control my squeals when groundballs are hit towards me. I used to NOT be scared of the ball. Then I had some grounders take bad bounces towards my face, and now I have a mental block against them! My knee is actually sore from my experience rolling across the grass. Sucks.
Whatever…the point is that Saturday we actually had enough people to play a real game. On a real field. It was a softball field, but it was still a real field. We played 7-on-7…final score 16-14. Close one. Everyone is getting much better. Even the people that have never played before. People are starting to be able to catch and hit and throw better every time. Cool to see. Most of us have our own gloves by this point…although I hear rumors that the next things people are going to buy are cleats. Ha. It was a blast. We actually reserved a field at a local park…pretty damn cheap. Just a pain in the ass to drive down 45 to get to the parks and permit office to do it.

Rest of the weekend was pretty good, too. I was actually halfway productive. What a miracle. I ran errands and got some sleep. Kind of. I have not really had a good night’s sleep since last Sunday. Marilyn was here this Sunday, and we had a badass shopping trip at DSW. Everyone must go check out their clearance sale…I got 4 new pair of shoes. Whoo-hoo. Not just boring work shoes, either. But fun, going out, crazy-high heels with silver sequins. Completely over the top and fun. :-) The way shoes should be. I definitely have issues. This I know.

I also went to see Pirates of the Caribbean. I have to say that I was kind of disappointed. Not just in the way it ended, but in the fact that it was SO DAMN LONG. Man. It was good, but I was getting completely restless. Never a good sign. Especially for it to be so long, and accomplish nada. Stupid movie. Oh well!!

Quarterly meeting is this week, so this week may be nuts. What am I talking about? This week WILL be nuts. My goal is to stay late on Monday, so I can go home and chill Tuesday night. The event is Wednesday at lunch, but it is a hotel I have never had an event at. Kind of nerve-wracking.

Hope everyone has a good week!

Who tips at McDonald’s??

Filed under: Food, My Day — Jill @ 9:12 am

Apparently drunk people do. Yesterday I was out running around and had a serious craving for McDonald’s fries. Seriously. Ha. ;-) Some people will get that.

Anyway…I ran by my nearest McDonald’s, on Post Oak. There was one other car in front of me…some little yellow Mazda or something with a girl in it. It was sitting at the first window. She was just sitting there…not paying, but just sitting there for some reason. And her brake lights kept coming on, like the girl was having a hard time starting her car or getting it in gear or something. The guy working the second window even had his head out and was looking at her because there was no reason for her to not pull up. Suddenly she manages to get her car started and it jumped forward, except that her wheels were aimed at the wall…she managed to correct her steering, but still scraped the wall a bit. My only thought was “whoa…” I managed to pay and pulled forward, still behind the yellow car, which is now at the second window getting whatever she ordered…apparently just a drink. I have my window down, so I can hear her yelling at the two workers at the window….”You guys rock…you guys are awesome….” She is yelling all this and pointing at them, but she has a cigarette in her hand and all I can think is that I hope she does not burn anybody. Then….crazy bitch pulls out a TWENTY dollar bill and tips them! For handing her a soda….and she drives off yelling “I said split that…don’t be a bitch and make sure you share…split that!!” It was hysterical. And I only got to witness this because I had a sudden craving for french fries. :-) Wonders never cease.

We were REALLY just going to go to happy hour…and we should REALLY know better. Ha. Went straight from the Tavern to Red Star. It was a blast. You know how you learn something new every day? I learned two things yesterday…how to catch a ping pong ball in my cleavage and how to dance on the pole at R.S. Ha. We are goofballs.

Have a good rest of your weekend!

Elodie’s Birthday….again!

Cristina, Summer and I took Elodie out to dinner for her birthday last night. Such GREAT food. As it was her birthday, she picked the restaurant, of course. We ended up at the Red Onion….where the chips and salsa were to freakin die for. And considering the way we gorged outselves, I am surprised we are not all in a coma in our beds. Damn. SO good. We also had peach mojitos….YUM. I guess it is becoming clear that we freakin loved the Red Onion, right? :-)

The best part was giving E-lie her gift. We were more excited. :-) We took pictures of each one of us with Elodie, put them in a frame. and then put scrapbooking items around each picture, that were related to either the location or activity, etc. It was SO freakin cute. Summer is a genius. We all want one now! Ha.

We also went to Taco Milagro…which is not as fun as it used to be. Eh. Then Tipsy Clover, the place where Shannon practically lives. We were actually home pretty early…probably because we were so full!!

I almost forgot the parallel parking incident. I will happily admit that I have no clue how to parallel park. I never had to learn, never had to actually do it. I will pay $10 to park in a lot as opposed to trying to parallel park on the street. Unless it is a spot that I can pull into, I am not getting in there. When we got to midtown last night, we found a spot on the street, but I was driving. No way, right? Well, Elodie decides she could do it, even though my car is much larger than the one she is used to! It was scary. And hilarious. All at once. I swear she backed up and went forward again 10 times. Every time she was backing up and we said stop, she would give it gas just one more time…I just knew we were going to crash into the car behind us. She did end up finally straightening it out, though…with no scratches or bodily harm - to the car or us! The girl is freakin nuts.

Tomorrow night may be a Red Star night….we shall see! Hope everyone has a good weekend!
