My latest movies…

I have gotten to see a lot of movies lately. Ones that I had really wanted to see in the theater but just never made it. I have to say that I was kind of disappointed in most of them and I would have been mad if I had paid the $9 to see them in the theater! Good thing I am lazy about going to the movies now!! :)

Flushed Away - Cute, but not great. Cheesier than usual songs as well.
Marie Antoinette - Man. I had REALLY looked forward to this. And then I actually found myself using the forward button quite a bit. So much silence. Characters just staring at a sunset for what felt like the longest periods of time. Man.
The Illusionist - This was much better than I thought it would be. Although the ending was resolved very very quickly. There is all this buildup…then the conclusion/resolution happens in about five minutes. And yeah, it was a good ending. But it could have had more intrigue. Or been a bit more suspenseful in the reveal. I dunno. SOMEthing. I am not sure why this did not do better in the theaters. Although there were two movies out at the same time about magicians. Maybe the public can only handle so much. And who am I to talk? Not like I paid to see it. :)
The Prestige - This is probably the only one I was not disappointed in. When I first heard the casting for this movie I got incredibly excited. Christopher Nolan directing, Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman in the leads. I did not even care that Scarlett Johansson was in it. She bothers me for some unknown reason. Anyway…this was a GREAT movie. I actually should have watched it again before i mailed it back. The beginning was a bit confusing until you figure out who all the players are. Mainly because it is flashing back and forth constantly as two journals are being read. Really interesting concept, great acting, and a great ending. I may actually buy this one. :)

Blast from the Past….

Okay, when I was young these were my absolute favorite books. I believe that up until the time I stopped reading them I had every single one of them. Every trip to Beaumont and Parkdale Mall including me going into WaldenBooks and BEGGING for the next book in the series, unless I somehow managed to have money of my own to just buy it without the pleading. I even remember watching the Baby-Sitters Club movies. Wow. That makes me feel old. Anyway…the point of this is that there is someone out there rereading the Baby-Sitters Club books. How awesome is that! And not only is she rereading the series, she is blogging about them with hilarious commentary. If you read ANY of the books her comments will make you laugh out loud. This is a great project. Seriously impressed! Check it out here….

Another quarterly meeting…

This week has been pretty crazy. That is what happens when you have a major event on a Monday. I figured out that the quarterly meeting on Monday was my 7th one that I have been majorly involved in. That is a lot. Makes me feel like I have been working here forever. This one was definitely the best looking one we have done since I have been here. It was also one of the smoothest, even though the speaker was stuck in Washington because of weather. Luckily we had a substitute that is a good speaker on their own. Check out the pictures and see how amazing the room looked. The theme was education, and the flower arrangements even had school supplies stuck in them - glue, crayons, etc. Too cute. But not so cute that you forgot you were at a business event. VT2 Studios and Let It Fly rock. Definitely makes these events easy for us to do…we just worry about the registration and agenda side. They handle the rest. Takes at least SOME of the stress off of us. The one thing I consistently forget to do is order the damn flowers. So at least that is done for us! Now on to the next one…

It feels like we have been waiting on this forever, but really they have only been planning it for about four months. And they did a great job! Everything in the church and the hall looked great, and the reception was a blast. The wedding was pretty and sweet, although I stopped paying attention pretty quickly. That is what happens when you don’t speak the language. :) Ha. The reception seemed to be a million miles away. We kept driving….and driving! But once we got there it was so much fun.
I also got to see Tany this weekend. That girl is nuts. Then my parents took me to lunch on Sunday. Cafe Adobe….mmmmm…

Okay people…I am on a mission. I need somebody to find me a sno-cone stand around the Galleria!! I LOVE sno-cones. And there is a definite lack of these where I live. I would rather have a sno-cone than ice cream. Sad, I know. Erin and Steph understand where I am coming from…a sno-cone can actually be an entire meal!! Especially if it has cream on it. YUM. Can anybody help me?? I know, I know…I am a tad bit insane. But dude…pina colada sno-cones with cream are AWESOME. :)

Who didn’t see this one coming??

I like Brad Lidge. I really do. I really think he still can pull it together and be a great closer again. But…I am still relieved that for the moment Dan Wheeler will be taking over those duties. I just think Lidge needs help. As in therapy. Which is something I have been saying since LAST season. There is obviously something going on in his head that he cannot get over, or have fixed. I feel bad for him. But I am not a hater!! I am not screaming that he is awful and needs to be traded. I still have hope. The only reason I would even bring up a trade is to maybe give him a chance for a fresh start. Maybe that would be what he needs to be “Lights Out Lidge” again! Official announcement here….

Oh yeah…I had a dream the other night that Brandon Backe came back with his arm so strong that on the days he doesn’t start, they use him as the closer. Hahahaha. I crack myself up.

Save the Center…

Filed under: News — Jill @ 11:00 am

This is really bothering me. And I am not sure why it bothers me so much. Maybe it is because it seems like Houston tears down everything. All the time. Anyway…I have been watching this on the news lately and found the web site today. The City is trying to sell the property that “The Center” is on. I have been driving by this place on the edge of River Oaks since I moved to Houston. There is a lot of political and legal stuff going on with it that I don’t feel necessary to try to explain…it is all on the web site. So visit the web site…and if you feel the need, go ahead and sign the petition to Save the Center! Thanks!

TV’s Greatest Fat Men…

Filed under: television — Jill @ 12:15 pm

I could not help but pass this one on…this is a list of the best fat men on TV. Hilarious. The usual suspects are all there, Homer, Peter Griffin, Norm Peterson, etc. The funny thing is, as Summer just pointed out, there are a ton of fat guys on TV!! And most, if not all, have hot wives! Or hot girlfriends. Something that has long been a concept on television. The male is either fat or stupid or ugly, or all of the above, then the wife is always smarter, thinner and better looking in general! Anyway…it is a great list…check out the link here….

FCC & Cell Phones…

Filed under: News — Jill @ 7:24 am

Yesterday the FCC decided to not lift the ban on cell phones on air planes. And all I can say is thank goodness! I don’t know enough about radio transmissions and frequencies to say that cell phones on an air plane would be dangerous, but I do know they would have been seriously annoying! Can you imagine being stuck on a flight with everybody and their brother on the phone? And we all know most people talk even louder when they get on their cell phone…especially if there are other people also talking around them! I actually speak at a normal volume when I am on the phone, as opposed to my usual loudness. :) Just because I hate being on the phone in front of people…so I try to be quiet so no one can hear my conversations. Cause the stuff I talk about is so important, right?? ;) Ha. Anyway…I really think this was a good decision! And a relief for when anyone flies. See CNN for more info…

“The idea of a person being a captive audience to someone yapping on the phone is simply a recipe for a lot of anger and a fair share of conflicts,” he wrote.

The phones have been snapped shut for now, at least as far as the FCC is concerned. But the issue may come up again. The agency said it may “reconsider this issue in the future if appropriate technical data is available for our review.”

I miss Alias…

Filed under: My Day — Jill @ 3:47 pm

For some reason I am really missing my favorite TV show…ALIAS. I guess it is because I have been watching a ton of LOST lately, and J.J. Abrams created both shows. Which means they have many similarities.  I have been getting season 2 of LOST from netflix, while watching season 3 every week on ABC. I don’t even really know anybody else that watched ALIAS, but even after multiple viewings of the dvd sets it still remains my all-time fave. I was on my fave web site today, Television Without Pity, looking through their list of shows, and I saw their description of ALIAS. As much as I love the show, this description is pretty much right on the money!! This concludes my random thoughts for the day! Have a good one! :)

She was a grad student who was a spy who worked for the good guys but were really the bad guys and then she worked for the good guys to bring down the bad guys and when she finally got the bad guys all blowed up, she disappeared for two years, some dumb bitch showed up and stole her boyfriend and the whole show went all to hell. Yes, there were still some good times — the wigs, the stunts, the silly plots, the twitching of Spy Daddy’s face — but by the time we reached season five, we didn’t give a damn anymore. And, thankfully, neither did JJ Abrams or ABC because they finally wised the hell up and yanked this show off the air before it started full-on sucking. Hasta la vista, Spy Barbie!
