Friday was sad because it was Esmeralda’s last day. It is hard to think about the PPGs being without her! She is going to do great things, though, so I wish her the best! We will definitely miss you, Esmer!! :) What started off as an innocent goodbye happy hour ended up with a trip to Louisiana and the casino. I know…crazy, right?? I had never even been to Louisiana for gambling before. New Orleans, once, but never a casino. It was a blast. Apparently Vanessa has quite the obsession with the gambling. Especially the dollar slots. They call her name. Or something. I really thought she had lost a ton of money until we asked her exactly how much she had played and she responded “two twenties.” I can do math and that is only forty dollars. Which meant she had only lost ten! Haha. It was hilarious. Theresa and I were definitely the big winners. I call that beginner’s luck on my part. I never win anything, so I am sure it will not happen again!! The best part was that nobody believed us about where we were going. Or didn’t listen. I should have known something was up when I called Jenny to tell her where I would be and got no reaction. She called back two hours later freaking out and asking if I was going to Louisiana….she had thought I was going to a CLUB called “Casino.” Haha. Awesome. Vanessa and Theresa had pretty much the same reactions from people they called…a secondary phone conversation with many “What??s” Hope everyone had a good weekend!!

If you head into Downtown Houston on 59 North….

Go back to school and take driver’s ed again!! Seriously. I have never seen more people that do insane stuff on the roads. Here are a few pointers until you can get into that driver’s education class…

1. USE YOUR BLINKERS. Come on people…everytime you jumped in front of someone without using your blinker, they have to slam on the breaks and it backs up that lane for a damn mile.

2. STAY IN YOUR LANE. And by that I mean if you know you need to exit to the right, then don’t hang out in the left lane until the last possible second. Plan ahead! You know where you are going, you go the same place every morning, so act like it!

3. DON’T WORRY ABOUT THE HOV. Those people are passing you because you keep slowing down to look at them. Especially if the cops are doing their checks to see if every car has the correct number of people in it. Worry about yourself!

4. STOP CAUSING WRECKS. Easier said than done, I know. But if you will drive like a normal person, and not rear-end the car in front of you, the rest of us will have a smoother commute as well!!

5. STAY AWAY FROM THE DOWNTOWN EXIT. If you are not going downtown, that is. Just because the left hand lanes are going a smidge faster does not mean you need to be over there and then almost run into the barrier because you remember at the last second that you do NOT work downtown!!

6. CONCENTRATE. When you are in traffic, do NOT use your blackberry or put your damn makeup on. I don’t see how women do that anyway! How are you going to put mascara on while trying to have your other hand on the steering wheel, your feet on the gas pedal, and your eyes on the road?? Same goes with your damn emails. Save it for later!

7. DELIVERY TRUCKS NEED TO STAY HOME. At least until after 9 a.m. Even after you exit downtown, the stupid delivery trucks are parked on both sides of the street so everyone is having to jump back and forth to go around them. Can’t that Spec’s delivery wait an hour or two?? They aren’t even open until 10!!

Traffic used to never bother me. I had such an easy drive to work. And then school started a couple of weeks ago and it seems that all the parents sent their brains to school with the kids. Man.

It was a blast. :) Many extra hours at the office, but Kristin did a great job and everything came together and looked great. People really seemed to enjoy themselves! It is always a blast with all the volunteers…kind of a party within the party. Summer and Daniel even came in from Austin to help out and attend. So good to see My Summer! :)  The event itself was really neat…I was surprised at how many people dressed up in their “culturally chic” attire. And each room was decorated beautifully. The passport system was a big hit…mainly because you got to take your photo for it, just as you would for a normal passport. Wish I could trade those pictures out. My real passport photo is jacked up! Anyway…it was a really long, but good night! Hope everyone else had a good weekend as well! Pictures are up…

Yeah….Brandon Backe!!!

Most people that know me know that I was super excited yesterday! So excited that I actually had my fingers crossed that the softball game I was going to play in would rain out. And it DID. Thank goodness. Or else I would have had to bust out the VHS tape and record an Astros’ game. Whew. Backe did pretty well for not having pitched in a major league game in over a freakin year. It was great seeing him out there. I think everyone has missed how hype he gets! Of course, I was so nervous for him I could barely watch the stupid game. Had to bust my DS just to distract me. He wasn’t perfect, of course, but he was pretty solid. So congrats on the good job, Brandon Backe! :) And welcome back!

“I think Brandon’s a guy that everybody roots for, from a standpoint of we know how he works, we know how much he wants to pitch and likes to compete. It was nice to have him back.”

And this is awesome as well…

“The Brewers saluted Biggio before the game and presented him with a gas grill and 144 links of sausage and 144 bottles of Pepsi products, recognizing the 144 hits he had in Milwaukee. “
