Worst airline story I have heard in a while…

From The Consumerist…

http://consumerist.com/5030632/delta-makes-woman-with-muscular-dystrophy-crawl-off-plane

On July 20th, Julianna’s (delayed) Delta flight landed in Atlanta at 7:30pm, with a connecting flight scheduled for 8:05pm. Julianna, who has muscular dystrophy, missed the connecting flight because nobody came with a wheelchair until 8:05—the same time the connecting flight took off. To make matters worse, the plane crew told Julianna she might make the flight anyway if she stopped waiting for help and got off the plane right now, so she crawled down the stairs on her own. When the wheelchair came she was “wheeled into a back room and advised” that her plane had taken off. But that was just the first half of her ordeal, and the next eight hours only got worse.

The employees in this room were debating who would get me to the ticket gate to be re-ticketed because it was no one’s job and the appropriate personnel were not responding to their calls. After that was resolved I was given a new boarding pass for a flight expected to leave at 12:55 AM. Then this person advised me she cannot get me from a D Gate to Gate A9. She again called for the appropriate personnel who never showed. We waited by an elevator for someone she convinced to bring me over to Gate A even though it was not his job. I had to beg him to stop at a bathroom entrance and to wait for me and then he finally delivered me to Gate A9.

I was given a meal voucher for my INCONVENIENCE but could not purchase any food because again there was no one to bring me to an eating establishment, never mind wait on the long line for me to make a food purchase.

At 11:15 I advised the gate attendant I was dehydrated and cramping because I could not purchase any water. This is the only nice employee that treated me with dignity. The flight I was transferred to was supposed to leave at 10:22 PM but was delayed until 1:30 AM. This gate attendant went and brought me water off of the plane.

This gate attendant also made sure she finally found some one at 11:15 PM to push me to obtain food and another bathroom break. I arrived in West Palm Beach at 3:15 AM with no ride and had to again crawl into the shuttle service to get home.

I understand plane delays and waiting at airports, but is this how you treat your handicapped passengers???

The text above is from a letter Julianna has sent to Richard Anderson, Delta’s CEO, who we hope will do more than send her another food voucher—like take real steps to make sure handicapped passengers are treated with a minimum of respect when they’re traveling.

Eeyore Moment #5,544,315

Filed under: My Day — Jill @ 10:01 am

Okay, so that isn’t an exact count. But I know I am getting close to that. Just in the last couple of weeks I have seriously added to the tally. Most people know that Blanca calls me Eeyore…mainly because bad luck just follows me around and stuff happens to me that doesn’t happen to anyone else. I’m not saying super bad, tragic stuff…just stuff. Clumsy stuff, goofy stuff, etc. For example…it only starts raining when I need to be outside somewhere. And like last night, when I was doing a load of laundry I seriously needed for today, only to get to the dryer, open the door and have wet clothes come out. The dryer had been going for 45 minutes with no heat. Never mind that when I opened the dryer, it had just been used and was still hot from the previous load! *sigh* I refused to spend 75 more cents just to see if MAYBE my clothes would get dry, so I resorted to hanging them all around the apartment. Only me!

Poor Bennigan’s…

Man. I ALMOST went to Bennigan’s for lunch on Sunday…but ended up somewhere else instead, and boy do I regret it now! And yes, I know that not ALL Bennigan’s are closing…but you don’t know yet which ones are going to be open (franchise-owned versus company-owned). So this is my farewell to the best monte cristo EVER. :) So sad! And yes, I realize that this is not really a healthy option for a meal….but come ON….every once in a while…when you just wanted something YUMMY and to hell with the calories….the monte cristo always came through. :)

No more Favre!

Filed under: News — Jill @ 2:24 pm

I don’t even care whether he plays this year or not. I am just sick and tired of hearing about it! No matter what your opinion is about the situation…whether Favre or the team is in the wrong, just tell me about it when something actually happens! He either gets traded or released or plays again. *sigh*

This is a really good article breaking down the entire thing…

I do feel bad for Rodgers. No matter what, he will be screwed. If Favre is traded, and he is the starting quarterback free and clear, he will have to be PERFECT this season. Every little mess up will bring on tons of criticism and comparisons to Favre…not to mention the “what if” questions. Sucks!

LOVE the municipal court system

The revelations just keep on coming this week. This one has to do with tickets/fines/etc. Apparently, when the City thinks you have messed up on some form or fine or SOMETHING, their turn around time is about 48 hours. But when THEY make a mistake they don’t tell you…until you get soaked in the rain twice, stand in line for over an hour, get stranded with no ride, and try to give them their $150 fine…only THEN do they tell you “oh, that was dismissed a week ago.” Isn’t that lovely! Don’t get me wrong, I greatly appreciate the fact that they actually did realize there was a mistake on their part and dismiss everything….but you can’t tell me that?? So I don’t waste my time and yours trying to rectify the situation?? Come ON.

Maybe not having to part with my $150 means my weekend will be good. I am taking it as an omen. :) No Eyrore this weekend!

How embarrassing.

Astros can take a series from the Red Sox, but get swept by the PIRATES. ‘Nuff said.

Penny!!

After five years of work bliss, Penny turned in her notice to leave this place. :) I am glad she finally has the ability to do without a job, and is able to stay home with her cute kiddos! We will DEFINITELY MISS HER!!

Astros…*sigh*

Poor Astros. There really isn’t much else to say! At least I still call them the Astros….and not Lastros or Disastros. Ha! I am just hoping we can work on the farm system and get that back in order. That is the future!! :)

Revelation…but not really.

I have known this for a really long time, but today I was listening to a conversation and it just struck me super hard…the dumber you are, the faster you move up in jobs. The conversation I was listening to was ridiculous. Between someone fairly high-ranking and someone not at the bottom, but a step or two above, and the bottom person practically had to write down what was being said before the higher-ranking person FINALLY understood it. Fascinating. Again, this is something that we see every day, but sometimes the examples in front of us are so blatant it is hard to fathom how some people get to where they are! Maybe we should have brain cells removed, so we are all idiots. Can you imagine?? The bosses wouldn’t even know who to promote!

Random items/weekend

So it has been decided that I jinx the Astros. :) To which I say, oh well! After winning their games Friday and Saturday, they got shut out on Sunday when I was in attendance. Ha.

Congrats to Summer….she will be starting a new job soon! I am very excited for her! She deserves it! :)

Cristina also got a new position at her company…so congrats to her, too!

This weekend was good…busy, but not overly so. Friday was a ton of fun…a group of people for late-night sushi. Poor Christine…she got out-sushied by Lauren and Jose. But at least she and Jason could admit it. :)

Have a good week!
