Post tournament

Filed under: My Day — Jill @ 11:18 am

Our yearly golf tournament always means a long day - from 7:30 in the morning to after 8 at night. The day AFTER seems to be worse, though. That is the day that is really exhausting. Probably because we actually have fun during the tournament, and the soreness and tiredness doesn’t hit until the next day! At least this year the weather was absolutely gorgeous. And there were enough carts that we could ride around and see what all was going on. AND make multiple stops at the VT2 hole. ;)

Friday!

FINALLY. This has been a LONG week. Astros game, goodbye happy hour, Grey’s Anatomy, crazy work week, and now my poor WAMU! Boo.

Hope everyone has a good weekend!

Traffic.

Filed under: My Day — Jill @ 9:14 pm

Seriously…the amount of gas being wasted sitting in traffic due to red lights still being off almost makes it not worth going to work. One red light works, then the next two don’t….I live 15 minutes from work, and it took me well over an hour to get home today. Come ON!!!!!! It also isn’t safe…never mind how annoying. People start acting stupid and blocking traffic or running through intersections. Which I will never understand because once you get through the intersection, you are unable to go anywhere beyond that! All the cars in front of you are stopped, too! *sigh*

Random things I have done since Ike…

Filed under: Home — Jill @ 9:42 am

1. Become a maidservant

2. Learned how to change oil in a generator

3. Discovered that the smell of wet carpet is quite disgusting

4. Rescued a chihuahua puppy that was wandering in the street. SO CUTE

5. Managed to not go nuts trying to coordinate between my blackberry and personal cell for people in my division

6. NOT watched the Astros

7. Appreciated the organization of grocery store staff

8. Become an advocate for Tylenol PM. Just the thing for storm nerves.

9. Felt really really really LUCKY that my family, friends and myself are all okay!

10. Hung out with cousin Dale

11. Thrown away mildewed things!!

Electricity!

Filed under: Home — Jill @ 1:16 pm

The parents have electricity in Warren. :) Awesome!

Ok, idiots…

Filed under: Home — Jill @ 8:07 pm

Please pay attention to the red lights. This is not rocket science. If the red light does not have any LIGHTS showing….STOP before proceeding through the intersection!! Man. I almost got hit by two different people today that were just cruising on through an intersection on my way to work. Then I came across a three car wreck right outside of our garage. COMMON SENSE PEOPLE. It is like people get lights in their homes and just assume all of Houston is back to normal. For all of you non-idiots out there….BE CAREFUL!

Gas update…

Filed under: Home — Jill @ 1:26 pm

When I am driving around it seems that more and more gas stations are open. I was able to fill up my tank this morning at Weslayan and 59. That station actually had people out directing you where to go, so it was very orderly. Even if there isn’t an employee in the lot, come on people! Just wait in line patiently for your turn! I have seen some nutty things the past few days. People acting like idiots. Also, be careful of the red lights! Not all of them are even blinking red, so sometimes they are harder to see. I almost got to see a wreck closer to my house. At least I have electricity now, even though my living room smells like mildew thanks to my wet carpet!

 Stay safe!!!!

Happy Birthday…

Filed under: Home — Jill @ 1:14 pm

Today is my dad’s birthday! Not that he is probably having a very good time…trying to keep generators going and deal with the aftermath of Ike. Just hope they don’t run out of water. That would be a really bad birthday present. The Eagles are already got postponed!

So…Happy Birthday Daddy!

Stupid Zambrano

Filed under: Home — Jill @ 8:19 am

I can’t stand this guy. Gets  no-hitter against the Astros in Milwaukee. Bullshit. Does any one else consider this part of the hurricane aftermath? I believe I will.

More Ike stuff.

So my apartment is fine - just wet carpet around the patio door thank goodness. It was already drying by the time I made it over there. No electric, of course. Although I have been watching chron.com and the power reports, and tons of people in my zip code have power, just not the Creole or Yorktown! I am still checking on it so I can report back to Cristina and Jen when it DOES come on, though. Convenient to live right next to people you know and spread news!

In work news, all of MSD has been accounted for. There was some damage to 3 or 4 people’s homes, but all bodies are safe. Between Mark, Susan and I we got ahold of everyone. Some of them even have electricity again. Others evacuated after the storm when their housing situation became too difficult.

Warren update: Still no electric, of course. The cool front did help coming through, and the freezers are still frozen. Main problem is that the water may be shut off tomorrow because of lack of propane to run the pumps. Hopefully if that happens all the Warren-ites will head this direction.

BRANDI…I just saw your offer of shelter!! THANK YOU! Sincerely! My dad refused to leave, though…no matter where I would have liked to send them!

If anyone has internet, let me know how you are doing! There are several people I still haven’t heard from.

Love you guys! Be safe!

P.S. If anybody gets ahold of any MREs, I want some! Daddy didn’t save me any last time!
