me, Sloan at last year’s Warren graduation

me, Hannah

me, Kelly (HCC), Jay (HBU)

Good luck kids!

Tomorrow is Jay’s first day of his final year in college, Kelly’s FIRST day of college, and the first day of senior year for some special kids in Warren! I was the “ETC” student (teaching aide for high school credit) for Alyssa, Hannah and Sloan in Warren a million years ago. It was my senior year of high school….and tomorrow they start THEIR senior year of high school. WOW.

So good luck to everyone!

Astros

I will admit that I was shocked when the Astros traded Pudge to the
Rangers. Shocked….but not upset or angry like so many people out
there seem to be. Even without knowing whether the young guys we
traded for are any good, they are still YOUNG guys. Not old guys.
Pudge is old, people. Face it! He has also been declining in the
second half. So no matter how much I enjoyed having him this year, I
cant say that I was dying for him to be re-signed for next year. We
were in a bind, and he fulfilled a need. That is it. I wish him the
best of luck with the Rangers. Hopefully at least one of those young
minor league guys we traded for will turn out to be worth something.

Family in Houston….

As of this weekend, both Kelly and Jay will officially be in
Houston…and super close by! Jay is moving just a couple of streets
over…same place Gino lives. Kelly is moving into my complex…just a
few buildings over! I cant believe she is old enough to live in
Houston by herself! But I think the same thing about Jay, too, and he
is 22! So scary! ;)

Last night was 1560AM's Mug Awards. I am SO going next year! It looks
like they had a blast celebrating their second anniversary, and
recognizing moments from the past year.

Cristina and I went to the Astros' game Wednesday night…free tickets
always rock. And it was $1 hot dog night….canNOT beat that deal.
Even if we were up at the very top. They also WON. Unbelievable, I
know. Michael Bourn was putting on a show…awesome, diving
catches….stolen bases. It was a good game to be at.

Im also getting excited about FOOTBALL season!! Im pumped about the
new stadium and my Cowboys. Not that I will ever get to go! Tickets
are insanely expensive, of course. Maybe when I win the lottery. ;)

Hope everyone has a good, safe weekend!

One more week until the World Trade Soiree! Yippy! :)
P.S. Anybody want to be my date? Ha!

Why is it…

That anytime you absolutely are not prepared to run into people from
your past, you will absolutely run into those very people?? There has
to be some answer for this somewhere out there! Or even when enough
years have gone by that you never think you will see said person
again, and then bam!….there they are! And then even if you are glad to see that person, which I was, you really dont know what to say! That was my day today. :)

There are a ton of birthdays around here in August…So Happy Birthday to:

Abby
Rebecca A
Yvonne
Maria V
Cassie
Blanca & Cassie’s mommy

Pride & Prejudice

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jilly @ 9:05 am

I do not know what my deal is with this, but lately I have become
obsessed with "Pride & Prejudice" by Jane Austen. This is particularly
humorous because I had never even read that book until a few weeks
ago. You could say that my education at Warren High School didnt
really include many of the "classics." Somehow I always managed to
avoid the english teachers that insisted we read what is considered
true "literature". Mrs. Stockton in junior high was the only one that
made us read anything….and at that point we were reading books the
high schoolers werent even reading. I loved it!

Anyway…to the point. Part of the appeal of P&P; is the amount of
interpretations and retellings there are of the story floating around.
I tend to gravitate towards series instead of one-off books…I always
want the story to keep going. I read too fast to be satisfied with
just one plot line. When I can finish off a book in two hours or less,
I feel cheated! No matter how much I enjoyed the story itself. There
is a trio of books by Pamela Aidan that I am loving at the moment that
tell the Mr. Darcy side of things. I am also looking forward to
reading versions that continue the story after P&P; ends, and there are
others that redo the entire story completely! I think I could make do
for a few months if I had enough Borders and Amazon gift cards to keep
me going. :)

I mustnt forget the movie versions of P&P;, either…I adore the Keira
Knightly telling. But that is mainly because of Matthew McFayden, who
I love from MI5 on the BBC. I still need the Colin Firth/A&E; one. I
hear that is the best!

Long week…

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jilly @ 8:34 pm

This week has been super long, but still fun! Especially because Blanca’s baby shower was today…she got a ton of stuff for Baby Sofia!

Sad I missed Zumba yesterday. And HH at Two Rows. Boo.

The Astros are depressing. I cant even keep up with who is on the damn roster at this point. At least it is almost football time! Whoo-hoo!

And I dont want anybody to give me crap for liking the Cowboys. Im not from Houston, I was raised to be a Cowboys fan, and they are MY TEAM….end of story! And most of the people hating on me for backing the Cowboys are Titans fans….newsflash, people….THEY ARE NOT THE OILERS, SO GET OVER IT!! Whew. Rant over. :)

Hope everyone has a good and safe weekend!

GO COWBOYS!
