ONE FOR THE MONEY

One of my favorite books is “One for the Money” by Janet Evanovich. This is the first in the Stephanie Plum series of novels. Which I think I have given up on, by the way. If you dont read them, they are hilarious whodonits about this female bounty hunter in New Jersey. Few things make me laugh out loud, but the first few books in the series did that over and over again. The problem is that the female character has two men to pick from…and after 16 damn books, SHE IS STILL GOING BACK AND FORTH. No thanks. I need decisions made at SOME point.

Anyway…they are making the first book into a movie, which I was very excited about. UNTIL I FOUND OUT THAT THEY CAST STUPID KATHERINE HEIGL IN IT. Ugh. I dont know that I can even explain my dislike of her. But she gets on my nerves! And I kept hoping she would drop out or they would postpone or something. But now they have apparently finished shooting and there is a release date! *sigh* July 2011!! UGH.

Most people would be so glad that one of their favorite/nonHarryPotterorTwilight books was being made into a theatrical release. Apparently not me! And I cant even explain the irrational reaction to this one, so I will stop now!

GLEE + BRITNEY = BRILLIANCE

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jilly @ 9:07 pm

Oh, Glee, how I love you! I admit, sometimes I find the over the topness of glee to be a bit much. SOMETIMES. But this week they did a Britney episode. *sigh* And we all know I love Britney! I cant explain that, either. Her music is just so much fun. Granted, she is an absolute train wreck. No question. But her music is a blast to listen to! I make sure to torture Marilyn with many hours of Britney on our vacations every summer. She tries to say she doesnt like it…but I know she does. How can you not?? Hahahaha.

Galleria

I realized today, when I was heading to the Westin Galleria for an event, that the only time I ever go to the Galleria now is for work. So random. I live so close, and I used to just run by and walk around or go shopping at least once a week. I mean, Im not a huge spender or anything so it was mainly window shopping unless I needed something specific, but still. I have been twice to the galleria in the past 3 months, probably. Both times for events! I figured I needed to make up for that today, so I made sure to get some shopping done during the down time. :) I felt better! Funny how that works!

GHP Golf Classic

Monday was my golf tournament that I have been stressing over for WEEKS. Mainly because while I have been the on-site “assistant/beotch/go-to” person for the main planner, I have never been the main planner before. And let me tell ya, this one takes a LOT OF LITTLE STUFF TO MAKE ONE WHOLE TOURNAMENT. Whew. Seriously nutso. Luckily, Rebecca, the past manager of the event, is a crazily organized, detail oriented person. She even had the labeled file folders from last year, so all I really had to do was fill the folders back up with the correct stuff! Awesome.

It ended up going pretty smooth…..I think. I did have one mixup that we thankfully caught early on, and it didnt have any bearing on the golfers, so that worked out. Also, the weather was INSANELY GORGEOUS. Seriously. Wasnt Monday beautiful?? Now imagine being at Champions Golf Club all day long! Wonderful. Mother Nature loved me that day!

Im just glad it is over. At least partly. I spent all yesterday organizing all the boxes and boxes and boxes of stuff that we brought back. Today I actually wrote out thank you notes to everyone on the committee. I think tomorrow I need to do sponsorship letters. And Friday I am off so I can start packing up my apartment! Not really related, but I just thought I would throw it out there.

It’s Official…

Apparently Ive skipped my mother and turned straight into my grandma. My new breakfast items of choice: oatmeal and Folger’s instant coffee. *sigh* My grandma loves instant coffee. And I have never in my life eaten oatmeal, except to try it at a friend’s house or something….and I have hated it the few times I tried it. But not anymore! It is kind of freaking me out. I bought a box last week, and have had it every morning since then! And I LIKE it.

GO COWBOYS!!!!

Finally. A damn WIN. I am kind of sad that it was against the Texans, but OH WELL. MY COWBOYS WON TODAY!!! WHOO HOOO!

I do find it hilarious that all my friends that are solely Texans fans on facebook have SHUT THE HELL UP. After talking so much crap to me these first two weeks of the season. I dont talk trash before, and I wont talk trash after…unlike some people I know!

GO COWBOYS!

Two more days with my roommate!

Sports Night!

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jilly @ 10:41 am

Talking about Dirty Sexy Money reminded me that the reason I even started watching that show was because of the lead actor, who I loved in Sports Night. I do not know another person that ever watched this show, or even knows what it was, but this is one of my all-time faves!

Wikipedia description: Sports Night is an American television series about a fictional sports news show (also called Sports Night) and the people who work there. It focuses on the friendships, pitfalls, and ethical issues they face while trying to produce a good show under constant network pressure. Created by Aaron Sorkin, the half-hour prime timecomedy-drama[1] aired on ABC for two seasons, from 1998 to 2000.

Peter Krause and Josh Charles were the two sports anchors, and the leads. AND I LOVE THEM BOTH! Ha. This was an Aaron Sorkin show, so of course the dialogue is NON STOP. Lots of walking and talking. And while I never really got into West Wing, I loved this about Sports Night. I have the dvds, and this is one of those that I will watch from start to finish every once in a while. I definitely recommend!

TiVo???

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jilly @ 8:54 am

Does anybody out there have a TiVo?? I know Wendy does, and she says she loves it. Im just so hesitant. I keep reading reviews, which I normally never do, and they are either love or hate. Not really any in-between. Here’s the deal…I am going to have free cable at my new apartment when I move. And most people know that I do not pay for cable, I just have an antenna, so this is kind of exciting. Ha! (yes, I am aware some people would say that is lame!) Anyway….since I am not paying for cable, it is just pumped in free, there is no DVR option, so I was thinking about getting a TiVo. Even with the monthly service fee, it is cheap, and I could even stream netflix through the box, as well. Im just scared! I have no idea why I am so hesitant. Maybe because I almost think it is too good to be true….I keep feeling like I am going to get suckered into buying this piece of equipment, and become locked into a year long commitment for the monthly fee, and then for some reason it will not work and I will have to either spend money on more pieces to make it function, or just be stuck with a useless box. Paranoid, much?? *sigh* I am Eeyore, after all! If there is one apartment in all of Houston that a TiVo would NOT work in, it would probably be mine!

Sad event at MMP

I just found out that the mother of a former coworker of Cristina’s passed away yesterday at Minute Maid Park! Apparently she went into cardiac arrest in the restroom, and even though fans performed CPR, she didnt survive. :( So tragic! Blanca and I were both at the game yesterday, but neither one of us saw or heard any commotion around our sections. Not sure what level it was on, or when it happened. How sad! My first thought was if anyone found and used a defibrillator. You should always keep your eye out for these devices! Also, this makes me appreciate my CPR and defibrillator training. You never know when something will happen right in front of you! I just hope that if something ever happens to me that there are trained people present. So heartbreaking.  Prayers to this family as they deal with their loss. :(
