No fat people in the Olympics?

Filed under: News, television — Jill @ 1:59 pm

Well, duh. I mean, come ON….people find all sorts of stuff to complain about. :) I really like how supposedly the ratings are good JUST because the primetime sports have pretty, toned, athletic people competing. Well, DUH, again.  Isn’t this the Olympics? A worldwide ATHLETIC event?? I did find the commentator funny during the women’s synchronized platform diving last night. The Canadian girls were not the typical tiny divers…they looked like normal girls. Not fat or chunky by any means…but they had thighs, hips, like normal people do. And the commentator kept saying how much harder it is for them to have less splash, and she kind of hesitated and then said “Because they aren’t as streamlined.” Haha…nice way of calling them nonskinny!! I did enjoy this quote from the Houston Chronicle today, about Michael Phelps:

When the 23-year-old swimmer lowered the top of his Speedo LZR Racer suit to a full foot below his navel Sunday night in cheering his teammate in the final leg of the 4X100 relay, he looked like a 21st-century version of Michelangelo’s David. He also veered dangerously close to R-rated territory. Straight women and gay men across the nation were reaching for their smelling salts.

Phelps is a MONSTER

Seriously. Did anyone else watch him win another Gold last night?? He is freakin amazing.

Also, way to go for the men’s gymnastics team. Or as I like to call them, the mini people. Seriously. They look like these big, burly men that have just been shrunk. As opposed to just being short. There is a difference.

P.S. I got reminded about shrink-a-dinks. That is exactly what the men gymnasts seem like! I had forgotten all about those things.

Weather coverage…

Filed under: News — Jill @ 11:31 am

Wow…I have been watching all the backlash that the news stations have been receiving today because of their overly dramatic Edouard coverage, and I am finding it HILARIOUS. I mean, while I was watching the coverage and then looking outside at the rain, I did notice quite the discrepency. I agree that some people are saying that it is kind of like the boy who cried wolf….that the next time people won’t get worried, and then it will actually turn out bad. And yes, I know, that they are just providing predictions based on data, and things change….but come ON, did they really need to be so dramatic?? Once the storm arrived and it was obviously not as bad as they were predicting, the live feeds and every-second coverage should have been scrapped. But nope…we still got reporters on locations showing water and wind…and pretty much finding ANY little thing to report on, just to have a story! Ridiculous!

Worst airline story I have heard in a while…

From The Consumerist…

http://consumerist.com/5030632/delta-makes-woman-with-muscular-dystrophy-crawl-off-plane

On July 20th, Julianna’s (delayed) Delta flight landed in Atlanta at 7:30pm, with a connecting flight scheduled for 8:05pm. Julianna, who has muscular dystrophy, missed the connecting flight because nobody came with a wheelchair until 8:05—the same time the connecting flight took off. To make matters worse, the plane crew told Julianna she might make the flight anyway if she stopped waiting for help and got off the plane right now, so she crawled down the stairs on her own. When the wheelchair came she was “wheeled into a back room and advised” that her plane had taken off. But that was just the first half of her ordeal, and the next eight hours only got worse.

The employees in this room were debating who would get me to the ticket gate to be re-ticketed because it was no one’s job and the appropriate personnel were not responding to their calls. After that was resolved I was given a new boarding pass for a flight expected to leave at 12:55 AM. Then this person advised me she cannot get me from a D Gate to Gate A9. She again called for the appropriate personnel who never showed. We waited by an elevator for someone she convinced to bring me over to Gate A even though it was not his job. I had to beg him to stop at a bathroom entrance and to wait for me and then he finally delivered me to Gate A9.

I was given a meal voucher for my INCONVENIENCE but could not purchase any food because again there was no one to bring me to an eating establishment, never mind wait on the long line for me to make a food purchase.

At 11:15 I advised the gate attendant I was dehydrated and cramping because I could not purchase any water. This is the only nice employee that treated me with dignity. The flight I was transferred to was supposed to leave at 10:22 PM but was delayed until 1:30 AM. This gate attendant went and brought me water off of the plane.

This gate attendant also made sure she finally found some one at 11:15 PM to push me to obtain food and another bathroom break. I arrived in West Palm Beach at 3:15 AM with no ride and had to again crawl into the shuttle service to get home.

I understand plane delays and waiting at airports, but is this how you treat your handicapped passengers???

The text above is from a letter Julianna has sent to Richard Anderson, Delta’s CEO, who we hope will do more than send her another food voucher—like take real steps to make sure handicapped passengers are treated with a minimum of respect when they’re traveling.

Poor Bennigan’s…

Man. I ALMOST went to Bennigan’s for lunch on Sunday…but ended up somewhere else instead, and boy do I regret it now! And yes, I know that not ALL Bennigan’s are closing…but you don’t know yet which ones are going to be open (franchise-owned versus company-owned). So this is my farewell to the best monte cristo EVER. :) So sad! And yes, I realize that this is not really a healthy option for a meal….but come ON….every once in a while…when you just wanted something YUMMY and to hell with the calories….the monte cristo always came through. :)

No more Favre!

Filed under: News — Jill @ 2:24 pm

I don’t even care whether he plays this year or not. I am just sick and tired of hearing about it! No matter what your opinion is about the situation…whether Favre or the team is in the wrong, just tell me about it when something actually happens! He either gets traded or released or plays again. *sigh*

This is a really good article breaking down the entire thing…

http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/8387530?MSNHPHMA

I do feel bad for Rodgers. No matter what, he will be screwed. If Favre is traded, and he is the starting quarterback free and clear, he will have to be PERFECT this season. Every little mess up will bring on tons of criticism and comparisons to Favre…not to mention the “what if” questions. Sucks!

Penny!!

Filed under: Work, News — Jill @ 10:01 am

After five years of work bliss, Penny turned in her notice to leave this place. :) I am glad she finally has the ability to do without a job, and is able to stay home with her cute kiddos! We will DEFINITELY MISS HER!!

Random items/weekend

So it has been decided that I jinx the Astros. :) To which I say, oh well! After winning their games Friday and Saturday, they got shut out on Sunday when I was in attendance. Ha.

Congrats to Summer….she will be starting a new job soon! I am very excited for her! She deserves it! :)

Cristina also got a new position at her company…so congrats to her, too!

This weekend was good…busy, but not overly so. Friday was a ton of fun…a group of people for late-night sushi. Poor Christine…she got out-sushied by Lauren and Jose. But at least she and Jason could admit it. :)

Have a good week!

It has been two weeks, and I don’t miss my blazer at all. Haha. The CR-V is just so different from what I have been driving the last five years. Imagine that! I am sure everyone around me also appreciates the fact that I got something new, because I have stopped complaining and saying daily “I hate my car!” :)
