I am tired of being SICK.

I am sad the Olympics are over. I feel like I missed a bunch of it with the time difference and the scheduling. Booo. I did get to see a lot of the diving, which I love…gymnastics, track and swimming. I even saw the final match for table tennis. That stuff is amazing! The Chinese are like robots. Especially in the diving. And dude….there is no way their little gymnast girls are 16! Oh well. They got away with it, so time to move on! I did hear some radio talk show guys make an interesting comment the other day….they said that if you look at what the Chinese were dominating in, it was the sports where judges make the decision. A judge gives you a rank based on the impression made upon that judge. The ones the Chinese weren’t so dominant in were the sports where a judge is just overseeing…but doesn’t determine the outcome. Like gymnastics/diving vs. racing. I don’t know how true that would be or not. I just thought it was interesting. But let me tell you…I actually watched the diving, and all the Chinese divers deserved the scores they got. They were amazing. Kind of freakishly good, actually.

Hope the newest hurricane doesn’t come through just in time to ruin my big event next week. That would suck, to say the least.

I am tired of rain. I want to get my car washed, but no there is no point because it is just going to rain and dirty it up again! P.S. I still LOVE LOVE LOVE my car. :)

We have some real crazies at my job. And by crazies, I mean people who are a waste of oxygen. I also mean that quite literally. One of the crazies in particular often talks to herself and mumbles a lot. And doesn’t seem to ever remember conversations you had with her. Hmm.

I am ready for real television shows to come back on. I am sick of reality TV and reruns. Except for Project Runway, of course. :) I am looking forward to the following:

Fringe
Heroes
Bones
Grey’s Anatomy
How I Met Your Mother

I know there are some more, but I forget the names. I saw commercials for a couple I had not heard of yet the other day that sounded really interesting.

On that note, I need DVR!

I want sno-cones. And corn in a cup. :) Damn you, Blanca!

Penny!!

After five years of work bliss, Penny turned in her notice to leave this place. :) I am glad she finally has the ability to do without a job, and is able to stay home with her cute kiddos! We will DEFINITELY MISS HER!!

Revelation…but not really.

I have known this for a really long time, but today I was listening to a conversation and it just struck me super hard…the dumber you are, the faster you move up in jobs. The conversation I was listening to was ridiculous. Between someone fairly high-ranking and someone not at the bottom, but a step or two above, and the bottom person practically had to write down what was being said before the higher-ranking person FINALLY understood it. Fascinating. Again, this is something that we see every day, but sometimes the examples in front of us are so blatant it is hard to fathom how some people get to where they are! Maybe we should have brain cells removed, so we are all idiots. Can you imagine?? The bosses wouldn’t even know who to promote!

I was really looking forward to this event this year. Last year’s was so neat…the staff at the Four Seasons definitely goes all out. This year’s theme was Whoville/Grinch, etc. It was too freakin cute. Their hotel manager was even dressed up as the Grinch. Everything had a green hue to it, as you can see from the picture, and the menu items were named appropriately. The dessert was a white chocolate heart box, and it was called “Grinch’s Change of Heart.” TOO FUN. Allyson missed out, but she gets to be in England, so boo on her. Hope everyone is having a good week!

I never feel like it is actually Christmas time until we have our Elected Official’s Reception. It kind of feels like the last day of school before the break….even though we are still really busy! It is just the Christmas feeling. This year’s was especially festive….we even had a diver in a Santa suit in their fish tank! It rocked. Hope everyone is having a good week! Photos are up…

P.S. Check out the photos of Craig….

I haven’t been on here in a while…so just to catch up I have more than one thing to add! First, we finally had our work golf tournament last Monday. It was great…always nice to get out of the office and be outside, even if it was a little hotter than normal. Last year’s weather was perfect, but we can’t always have that! Cristina did a GREAT job with this year’s tournament. Even if the shirts were a little weird for volunteers. HA. We were at Champions up on 1960. Which worked out because I got to stay at Allyson’s and play with her live action figure, as I call him. Logan is running around and so active. Such a good, happy personality, too. Cristina and I can’t wait to babysit!!

It was a blast. :) Many extra hours at the office, but Kristin did a great job and everything came together and looked great. People really seemed to enjoy themselves! It is always a blast with all the volunteers…kind of a party within the party. Summer and Daniel even came in from Austin to help out and attend. So good to see My Summer! :)  The event itself was really neat…I was surprised at how many people dressed up in their “culturally chic” attire. And each room was decorated beautifully. The passport system was a big hit…mainly because you got to take your photo for it, just as you would for a normal passport. Wish I could trade those pictures out. My real passport photo is jacked up! Anyway…it was a really long, but good night! Hope everyone else had a good weekend as well! Pictures are up…

Another quarterly meeting…

This week has been pretty crazy. That is what happens when you have a major event on a Monday. I figured out that the quarterly meeting on Monday was my 7th one that I have been majorly involved in. That is a lot. Makes me feel like I have been working here forever. This one was definitely the best looking one we have done since I have been here. It was also one of the smoothest, even though the speaker was stuck in Washington because of weather. Luckily we had a substitute that is a good speaker on their own. Check out the pictures and see how amazing the room looked. The theme was education, and the flower arrangements even had school supplies stuck in them - glue, crayons, etc. Too cute. But not so cute that you forgot you were at a business event. VT2 Studios and Let It Fly rock. Definitely makes these events easy for us to do…we just worry about the registration and agenda side. They handle the rest. Takes at least SOME of the stress off of us. The one thing I consistently forget to do is order the damn flowers. So at least that is done for us! Now on to the next one…

Birthday festivities…

Good times, good times. I believe the week of celebrating my birthday is finally over. Sunday to Sunday is a pretty lengthy amount of time to celebrate. :) Lots of friends, drinks, meals, and shopping. :) Oh yeah, and in-between there I helped Summer a bit with the State of the County event. Not that she needed it! And I got to take my birthday holiday on a Friday. That is always good. Anyway…the point is that photos are up from Saturday girl’s night out. It was plenty festive! Although my feet are still killing me! I even got to see some girlies yesterday I have not seen in a LONG time. Breakfast with Steph and Erin seems to always fall on a Sunday after I have gone out Saturday night. I still am not sure how I got up and out of bed to actually go!

Ooh…I saw two awesome movies last week that I would highly recommend. I watched The Departed and then I saw Breach in the theater. The Departed was a little more shocking at times, but Breach was a great story all the way through. Held your attention even though you KNEW how it was going to end. Of course, the Departed was one of the Scorsese gangster movies, so you pretty much are assured it would be good. Casino is still one of my all-time favorites. Even though I have not managed to own it on dvd yet. I still bust it out on VHS. Ha. Yes, I still have a VCR.

Anyway….hope everyone had a good weekend!!

Gripes…

Filed under: My Day, Work — Jill @ 10:14 am

Dude…I understand that when you have 1400 people coming to an event, you are going to get many many many phone calls. But I cannot stand some of the questions I get over and over and over. For instance, every other call is asking for my email address to send me their table guest names. The problem with that is, the form that they sent me to register for the table has my damn email address right there on it…and they are usually reading the form to get my phone # to call me! So the email address is right there! Can you not read an entire sentence at a time?? Or, they have the table submission form right in front of them that specifically says “Please fax to #.” And they still call to ask where to send it to. What the hell. I also love the ones that call and just say they want to RSVP…then I offer to send them the registration form and they say “Oh, I have that already.” Well, if you have it, turn it in!!! Man. How difficult is that to figure out? Or the ones that call and start speaking to me without declaring who they are or what company they are from, and I am supposed to magically know which registration they are referring to. As if they are the only people in Houston attending any events. Ooh…and I have a couple of people that are notorious for calling me and then putting me on HOLD. Don’t even play. That is so damn rude.

I know this is overly bitchy. But I have been taking these same calls every single day, 8 hours a day, since we got back from the holidays. First for the luncheon last week, and now for the one on Monday. I just want people to learn how to read!! Or at least not be so lazy and research a little bit before you call me with the stupid questions!! Whew. I am done. For now! :-)
